FRIENDS OF MONARC - KARLA DEVINE

YOU'RE FROM NEW ZEALAND. WHAT BRINGS YOU TO LONDON?
I was living in New York at the time and booked myself on an around the world trip - part work, part holiday. London was my first stop. I fell in love with my now husband the moment I arrived, that was over eight years ago!
HOW DO YOU EXPRESS SELF-LOVE?
Since having my one-year old daughter Peggy, self-love really just means having a moment for myself! These rare moments are usually spent doing a yoga class, maybe getting a facial when I'm really lucky, or just taking an afternoon nap. I’m also really big on long, hot baths in the winter evenings. I never scrimp on food and spend a lot of time considering meals - whether it's spending time and money to make myself something that’s really healthy and delicious, or maybe it’s an indulgent treat or nice meal out.
WHAT DOES LOVE MEAN TO YOU?
It’s having somebody else put you before them, and putting somebody else before your own needs – not because you have to, but because you want to.
It's those moments that hit me and make me feel so lucky and overwhelmed with gratefulness that I’m able to share my each and everyday with these two brilliant humans (both big and small).
Love is looking forward to your baby falling asleep only to look at photos of them the moment they do!
WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO JEWELLERY ITEMS?
Looking down at my hands, I realise that I don’t change it up at all these days. The rings on my fingers hardly ever come off, I sleep with them all on! And they are all completely filled with sentiment - I have my engagement ring and my Monarc wedding band, my grandmother's engagement ring, a sapphire my mother gave me, and a fine pinky ring from a gorgeous little jewellery store in Brooklyn that some lovely friends gave me for my 21st.
I used to always wear a little gold arrow from Boh Runga’s Solid Gold collection which I hadn’t taken off since I got given in by my mother in law at least four Christmas’s ago, but sadly little hands recently got the better of its fine chain!
I’m really big on earrings, and these I switch up often, whether it’s the weekend, I’ve got a party or dinner to go to.
GOLD, SILVER OR MIXED METALS?
I switched to gold in my early twenties and never looked back. You wouldn’t ever see me in silver now.
